Praising God on Death Row
Death Row in California
Men condemned to death in California (with some exceptions) have been held at San Quentin State Prison, while condemned women are held at Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla. As of December 2015, San Quentin held almost 700 male inmates in its Condemned Unit, or "death row." As of 2001, San Quentin's death row was described as "the largest in the Western Hemisphere"; as of 2005, it was called "the most populous execution antechamber in the United States." The states of Florida and Texas had fewer death row inmates in 2008 (397 and 451 respectively) than San Quentin.
Starting in 2016, Access Prison Ministries has had the opportunity to visit and minister to several of the inmates housed here on Death Row. We would ask that you please lift us up in your prayers as we share God's love to these men. Regardless of how we all feel about the Death Penalty, we do know that there are eternal plans for everyone....even these men. Please contact us if you have any questions or would like to help out with what God has put before us.

God is Good on Death Row.
Brother Barry was the first Death Row inmate that contacted us. Over the last couple years, it has been exciting to see how his life has grown in Christ to a point that even the Prison guards have taken notice. One day while being escorted back to his cell by a guard, he was asked why he is always so happy and encouraging to other inmates. His response to the guard was he is a child of the King. The guard then asked what he meant by that and Barry told him that the King is Jesus Christ. In hearing that, that guard said with much excitement " I knew that's whats different in you" as they both broke out in laughter praising God.
Seeing Their Lives Change
Each and every month, Access Ministries goes inside the walls to give support and share the Love that our Lord has for them. It is such a blessing to see how they mature and grow in Christ while doing their time. Listening to their stories about how even the prison guards notice the difference in them is truly a miracle and blessing from God. Please continue to lift them up in your prayers as God uses them to reach other inmates and people they visit with.
